The power of the mind in sports

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

Sports is an activity most people usually take part in some way or another. This is the way many people get their physical exercise. For some people it is a very serious matter, with some people even doing it to earn their money. What other people do not realize is that though being an athletic person will help you in sports, the willpower also plays a major role in it. So in this article we are going to delve into how the mind will play an important part in sports.

The most obvious example which shows the importance of the mind in sports is when you are watching athletes perform in professional sports. You will notice that although most of the athletes look similar physically, some are better than others. And this is due to the fact that some have minds which are stronger compared to others. You’ll notice it when you see some great athletes choke when under pressure. That is when the mind is not being used to it’s full potential. As a Carlsbad sports psychology working with athletes has helped me see how true that is.

Working in sports psychology has provided me the chance to see how the mind can break good athletes. These are the athletes that usually have it all but family matters can cause them to fail under pressure. That is when many families call my family counselor practice to help them excel. That is when I see first hand how working with the mind can change their success.

At other times I also observe athletes failing due to the fact that they cannot control their temper. This primal emotion can cause them to fail when performing in their contest. A lot of times just being able to address them in my anger management counseling practice has helped them. By controlling their anger they experience much success.

So the major factor to consider is that the mind will also take a major role in your success in sports. If you really want to be good in sports then you also have to determine for yourself to train your mind.

The role of family problems towards depression

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Depression is basically one of the biggest emotional problems that a lot of people experience. There are definitely many reasons and causes of depression.  Some of those reasons are a chemical imbalance in your body.  While others are caused by other issues.  One of those issues we are going to look at is family issues.

Family issues are a very traumatic problem when they occur. This is mostly due to the fact that family is such an intimate part of our lives. So when a problem within the family occurs it really makes sense that it can actually and eventually cause problems like depression. This is one of the biggest reasons clients come see my in my depression counseling service.Because it is highly significant to address any family problems as soon as possible.

Depending on what the family problem is will determine the course of action that is needed to fix the depression. For example, counseling is a great and perfect way to try and resolve the depression if it is caused by a marital problem.  When I get families with relationship problems in my family counselor San Diego practice I always try to get them into a regular counseling session. It is within these sessions that we can really address the depression aspect of it.

Now if the problem gets worse and the fighting starts to escalate where the marriage is now in trouble, then definitely serious counseling is highly needed.  As a couples therapy San Diego practice what I try to do is try to have sessions with them. These sessions are especially designed to determine to the root of the problem. The major goal is definitely to clearly find out what is particular thing causing the issues then dealing directly with it.Because a lot of times the root among the many issues are not fully understood.Well a good counseling session can surely help resolve this issue.

So, depression is, as mentioned, a very powerful emotion that can be very harmful as well. And as mentioned, in cases of family problems causing them, then absolutely there are solutions available.

Anger and it’s real impact within sports

Friday, December 25th, 2009

One of the things most people enjoy doing is sports. It is absolutely one of the funnest things to do especially with family and friends.  It is also fun if you do it competitively.Iit is really something that most people enjoy much whether it is professional or amateur.  But sometimes that competitiveness can go way overboard. Sometimes that competitiveness can lead to anger. In this article we are going to examine anger within sports and how it hurts or helps the people involved.

Now there are some sports that are seemingly violent like football or boxing. But within those sports, is there really a place for real anger.  Some people say there is, but what I have found from my San Diego sports psychology practice is that anger is really a detriment.  Even in seemingly violent sports when a person gets angry you really can’t think right. And contrary to popular opinion most sports are a mental game and not just physical.

So my personal contention is that there is definitely no place for anger in sports. Sometimes our very competitive nature that is built within us makes us angry when we lose. But if we really want to succeed in sports or in life, we should not get angry when things don’t go well. That is really a concrete recipe for failure. And for those parents who actually do put their children in sports and want them to succeed, I always give them advice. The advice I give them as a family counselor San Diego is to teach them how to control their anger.

But sometimes some people do use anger to motivate themselves. Sometimes, it just works for a time. But sometimes, in reality, that anger boils over into personal life as they actually begin to lose the ability and power to control it.  That is when I end up seeing a lot of patients in my anger management counseling services.

So in reality we all surely get mad at many times in our lives. But in order for us to truly be successful in anything in life just like sports, we have to really know how to control it.

What’s behind great athletes

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

We people love to watch and follow sports and idolize the athletes that play in them. We are amazed at their athletic ability and skill. But what we do not realize is that there are more than just physical gifts which makes these athletes achieve success. In a world of many super athletes there is one quality that helps the ones that rise above the others. This quality is their mental toughness.Having this quality would either mean success or failure for these athletes.

Achieving mental toughness falls into the category of sports psychology. And professional athletes are not the only ones who can afford this service. With the kind of world that we live in which is super competitive even if we are still kids they would need it to be successful in sports at their early age. This is evidenced by all the families that have their kids come to my San Diego sports psychology practice.

There are many reasons why parents bring in their kids for sports counseling. But mostly they want their kids to have success in sports to help them with colleges. But some also realize that a successful use of the mind in sports helps in other areas. If they can be successful in sports and be mentally tough this can mean that they would also handle adversities in other areas of their lives. This is evidenced by the testimonials of people who have used my San Diego family counselor service.

But you should not push your children too much because anything in excess is bad. This can be the cause of a depression brought about by failure which would make them feel like they failed you.So you must be really careful in trying to push them and you must always reinforce them with positivity. I have seen that line crossed or ruined in my couples counseling San Diego counseling services.

So that is what makes athletes successful.Being successful in sports does not only mean you have to be physically gifted but you also have to be mentally tough.

Depression-causing events that require counseling

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

One of the most difficult emotions to deal with is dealing with depression.Because everyone goes through depression at different times in life, it is definitely difficult. But it is the serious depression, that is, the depression we are talking about having a hard time dealing with.  Sometimes it is called clinical depression. That is exactly the one that is hard to determine if it is serious enough to require some kind of counseling. In this article we are going to examine the signs that you really need counseling on depression.

First and foremost, everyone has bouts and encounters of some kind of depression from time to time as mentioned earlier. But actually there are some kinds of events or activities that trigger a person or individual that goes too far. Sometimes, something that is extremely emotional makes it really hard for a person to eventually overcome depression. Emotional events like a death can cause this type of depression. I see this a lot as a depression counseling. This usually takes place when a person really feels like it is their fault.

Now some causes of depression are as expected, not always the same for almost everyone. Something that doesn’t affect one person can really cause another one depression.Sometimes though, from within the body of an individual, it can be considered as a chemical reaction.Usually, this type or kind of depression has to be dealt with using some specific drugs.  There are times that I have to prescribe some sort of medication running a family counselor San Diego practice.I hate to do just that but however, sometimes if the depression is actually not coming from some event in life that is basically the only solution.

Then there are some kind or type of depression that absolutely comes from issues or problems which are triggered from within the family.Usually, a married couple sometimes may begin having a really hard time getting along with each other especially with their differences. This surely causes or triggers a rough time in their marriage.  I see this type of depression a lot doing couples therapy San Diego. If the couple is willing enough to try to work things out, then this type or kind of depression can actually be overcome.

As you can certainly see, depression is really a serious emotion that requires a very immediate action. Hopefully, this will be able to assist you to certainly know when a person or individual requires to seek counseling from a pro.

What are the signs that says you already need help for your depression

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Depression is something that most people experience at one point in their lives.  There are just so many things that happen in our lives it is natural to feel down at times. But there are situations when the depression can get serious. That is when those people really need a counseling.Because if the depression is not attended to then the consequences can be devastating. In this article we are going to look at some signs of knowing when to seek help for depression.

Depression can affect anyone at anytime as said earlier in the article. Things like struggles in marriage or relationships.Or the loss of a loved one can also be the cause of it.  The reasons for depression that I see in my depression counseling practice varies so much. But depression is a serious problem that is why it is important to know when to seek help.

You would know that a person already needs help if he/she is already depressed for a long time now.If you know someone who has been depressed for several days already they may already need some counseling.Or if someone has started to avoid social interaction then he/she already needs help too. As a family counselor San Diego I have seen all these symptoms. Once you see them you need to seek out help.

The reason you want to seek help is because often times a depressed person may hurt themselves if left to themselves. But there will be times when instead of hurting themselves they hurt others. If that happens the depression has already turned into anger. When a person feels helpless and hopeless he becomes enraged at his life.  That is when I use my anger management San Diego services to help them. Because that anger can hurt others at this point.

So as you can see depression is a serious condition. You must act fast if you know someone close to you that has been depressed for a time now. Their safety and others safety could be at risk.

Why mediocre athletes sometimes beat physically superior athletes

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

One thing that baffles many people is why two equally gifted athletes can have different levels of success. In other words there are a lot of physically gifted athletes out there. Many of them have similar skill sets. But only a few get to be successful while others come up short. We would look at the reason as to why that happens in this article.Meaning we would find out what the secrets are of those successful atheletes.

At first it seems hard to figure out but when you look at it you realize it is easy.Because you would see from these successful athletes that they have this proper mindset when it comes to competition.Mental toughness is the secret of these athletes or for any people who want to succeed in life. Those who are successful have trained their mentality to be tough.  As a San Diego family therapist practice I have a lot of parents who want their child succeed bring their kids in for this.

Success starts and ends with mental toughness. If a person is weak mentally they will not succeed at anything.Sports is a highly competitive field and if you would like to succeed you have to be mentally prepared all the time.  That is why my San Diego sports psychology practice gets so many clients.  People realize it is what will set them apart and help them succeed in their sports.

Most of the time physical gifts are what these athletes rely on to become successful.  But once they reach a level where people have the same skills they soon start to fail. This can lead to anger at times and it becomes the beginning of many problems.  Sometimes it leads them to need my anger management San Diego services. That would be the time when their anger needs to be dealt with also.

So now you may already know why two equally gifted persons have different levels of success. If they can train their minds to be tough they can really be successful. But if they only rely on their gifts alone then they should really be very gifted for them to be successful.

Reasons why depression should be taken into consideration seriously

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

There are times when people feel bad.But there are times when these can turn into depression.  It isn’t unusual and happens to most people.  But there are times when it does get too serious and needs to be treated.  In this article we are going to look at why you have to treat depression seriously.

First thing we should do is to understand what depression is.Some circumstances may lead to depression.  I have seen many causes of depression in my depression counseling service. It may be caused by the loss of a loved one or being laid off at work. Those are some of the usual reasons of a depression but it can be also due to a chemical imbalance. That would be the case when medicine is usually needed.

But for the normal reasons of depression there are also times when you have to take it seriously.  There comes a time you want to make sure it doesn’t get too bad.  Getting too bad is where a person might hurt themself. As a family therapist San Diego practice I see those instances when it does get too bad.I have witnessed some cases where they can already hurt themselves. That is why if you know someone who has been going through depression for a while you might want to seek help for him/her already.

And also, if it goes on for a while the depression can turn into anger.  If depression turns to anger you have to worry about them hurting other people. But the usual problem of depression is that the person can hurt himself/herself.But once it turns to anger they can already hurt others.  That is what we see happen in my anger management San Diego service. That would be the right time for them to get help.

As you can see if depression goes on too long you need to seek help.Depression is a normal affliction of people from time to time but once it gets serious it can hurt other people.

Why counseling is effective in treating depression

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

One of the hardest emotions people go through is depression. If you went through it already you know that it is not an easy thing to go through. And it would get more serious as the depression progresses.  It can be caused by a traumatic situation in one’s life.  It can be due to a loss of a loved one.  Or it can be from many different things. But the key to solving this is to know when the right time to go seek help.

Now the help I am talking about is using a depression counseling sevice to help. You would need one already when things in your life are being affected already.Like when your job is affected already.Or when your social skills are also being affected.Depression can hurt even the afflicted person themselves and that is why counseling is important. And it is very hard to know when they have reached that point already. That is why counseling is needed.

Another bad result of depression is when it develops into chronic anger.A depressed person feels like one part of his life is uncontrollable and they can do nothing about it.If that happens they would feel angry at the world for whatever reason.  This is when they would need anger management San Diego services.  Because you never want depression to move to anger. That is the time when other people can get hurt by teh afflicted person and he/ she can hurt himself, herself too.

If you are experiencing these things then you should seek counseling already. Because counseling can help a person through the situation. With my family counselor San Diego service I try to help people in this area.  And sometimes what they need is someone who can understand what they are going through. This will help them overcome their depression.

A depression is a very serious condition that needs to be treated. It may worsen and can hurt other people if left untreated.  Seeking counseling can help avoid those consequences.

The power of the mind in sports

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

One of the things that always cross our minds when it comes to sports is how great athletes are physically. The truth is they are very athletically gifted. But one thing that gets underestimated is the mind’s power. How powerfully the mind can contribute to success many people don’t realize. But looking at the professional sports you can observe this is true. You have examples of great athletes who end up losing in sports. It wasn’t because of the physical gifts they have.  Most of the time it was the weakness of their mind.  So in this article we are going to look at how you can use the mind to succeed in sports.

First of all this advice is coming from years of experience as a San Diego sports psychology. From many years of working with athletes I have seen that the ones who excel are the ones who can get their minds together.  That is very important in competitive sports.Because those who are prepared can surpass those of equal athletic strength with greater mind power.

Next what do they need to do in order to make use this mind power? To help you tap into your mind power there are a lot of courses you can buy.  But the best bet if you truly want to excel is to get a counselor to help you.  In my family therapist San Diego practice I have seen how working with a counselor helps the athlete really apply what they have learned.

Finally sometimes in sports one of the hardest emotions to fight is anger. And in sports anger could be one thing that makes you not perform well when you are in competition. Because of that in my anger management San Diego services I have incorporated help in this area.  This has helped many athletes improve as well.

So there you have the secret to success in sports. You can succeed in sports if you master your mind.
